Installing A Bathroom Vanity

Bored with your bathroom decor? You can liven it up by replacing your old vanity with a new one. You do not need to hire help for the remodeling, just follow these 8 easy steps.

1. Prepare your tools: screwdriver, pipe wrench, utility knife and a small bucket or pail.

2. Turn off the water flow by shutting off the valves. Open the faucets so that the pressure is relieved but they shouldn’t be gushing out water.

3. Before you remove the water lines, place the pail beneath the juncture of the drain pipe. It should catch the excess water when you loosen and remove the drain pipe. Take out the pipe using the pipe wrench.

4. Now that the bathroom vanity has been cut off from the water supply, use the utility knife to carefully slice through the sealant that’s holding the sink to the wall. The sealant used is often caulking can be removed easily. Be sure that you are supporting the the sink as you remove it; if it is too heavy, ask for help. Use the screwdriver to unscrew and remove any mounting screw that also keeps the vanity attached to the bathroom wall.

5. Prepare the empty wall space for the new vanity by removing the remaining sealant and other obstructions and dirt. Patch any holes or uneven surfaces.

6. Attaching the new vanity is pretty much Steps 4 to 2 in reverse. Move it into place and, with the help of a screwdriver, attach the screws that mount the sink to the wall. Use the knife to spread a caulking line around the new vanity.  If you have a designer bathroom vanity or other type of unique style, be sure to choose a grout color and angle that matches the decor.

7. Reattach the drain pipe you removed in Step 3. Seal it with waterproofing cement so it does not leak. Put back the lines from the water valve to the faucet.

8. Once the sealant and the cement has dried, you may now turn on the water flow through the valves. Voila! The bathroom looks like new!
